Remember

Last spring, I was faced with many big decisions. What am I going to do? Where am I going to live? How am I going to find a job? Who is hiring in the middle of a pandemic? What’s going to happen to my kids? How will I be able to provide?

It was very overwhelming. And, if I’m being honest, at times it still can be.

When we bought our house in Stamping Ground, Kentucky, it was our forever home. When Levi went through his treatment, our house became a refuge and a safe place. Because of these reasons and more, Levi, Colt and I decided early on in the divorce process that we wanted to try to keep our house. Our house wasn’t just walls and a roof. It was a place of security and stability. A place of comfort and familiarity. For the three of us: our house was home.

We prayed together and asked God to either make a way for us to stay, or to change the desire of our hearts.

Along came the non-profit group, Doorways of Hope, who launched a fundraising campaign to save our home. The outpouring of love and support was incredible.

One night during the campaign, my boys and I read JOSHUA 3-4, when God stopped the flow of the Jordan River during its peak season. He did this so that Joshua could lead the Israelites across to Jericho on dry land. God promised Joshua that He would be with them. After the Israelites safely crossed over, they took 12 stones and built a memorial. They did this so that future generations would know the story of what God did for His people. The stones would tell the story of His goodness, His faithfulness and of His power.

After reading this, Levi, Colt and I talked about how fun it would be to come up with a memorial to place on our property if the campaign was successful. We talked about planting a tree, or getting a bench to put beside our fire pit, but ultimately we decided not to discuss it any further until we knew if we would get to stay.

Well, as of today, it’s official. I just signed the paperwork! This summer, the boys and I will be stacking 3 large stones on our property to celebrate what God has done! Because of the generosity of so many people who gave to the campaign, we get to stay in our home for now. As a mom, being able to provide this for my boys; the words “thank you” will never be enough. I am beyond grateful.

Our stones, which all 3 come from meaningful places, will sit at the front of our property and serve as a declaration of God’s goodness and faithfulness. It will be a personal reminder to me that I can trust Him as we continue to step into a future that is unknown.

I’m still fighting through the hurt and pain of this past year. Life is hard and often unfair. I have grieved many nights and poured my heart out to the Lord asking Him all the questions and more.

Yet, in my brokenness and questioning, He gently and lovingly reminds me that this is MY story, and He’s writing it WITH me...

“My daughter, just trust me” He continues to whisper.

And so I will.

Jesus, help me to never to forget your goodness, but to always remember how faithful You are. Even when I doubt you or try to do things on my own, help me to trust You more.

Tami

Note: We will be able to live in our home, mortgage free for a few years and that’s what we plan to do. We will trust God with the rest knowing he has been faithful in the past and will continue to be faithful in our future.
